Transfer files from iPhone to a Windows PC without a cable

Move photos, videos and documents from any iPhone to a Windows PC with two browsers and a QR code: no cable, no app to install, no account. It works the same on every iPhone from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 17, because nothing goes through the port. Each file is checked when it lands.

How to do it

  1. On the Windows PC, open roomdisk.com/app in Chrome or Edge and choose Use this device as the spare disk. Files are kept in a folder you choose, as normal files.
  2. On the iPhone, scan the QR code with the Camera app and tap the roomdisk.com link. RoomDisk shows its own code.
  3. On the Windows PC, tap Scan reply and hold the iPhone up to its webcam. Or tap Share reply on the iPhone.
  4. Both say Connected. Choose files on the iPhone and send.

Why not a cable or AirDrop?

  • A cable needs the right adapter, an unlocked iPhone, “Trust this computer”, and the Photos app or iTunes.
  • Imports can stop with “The device is unreachable”, often while iPhone converts photos mid-copy.
  • Big libraries take several tries; a dropped cable starts over.

Every iPhone model

The port only matters for cables. RoomDisk sends over Wi-Fi, so these are here for reference: speed depends on your network, not the port.

Originals or compatible copies?

On iPhone, for exact originals, tap Options in the photo picker and choose Current, or pick from the Files app. Otherwise iPhone may send converted copies (for example JPEG instead of HEIC).

If HEIC photos won’t open on the PC, install Microsoft’s HEIF Image Extensions, or choose “Most Compatible” in the picker’s Options to send JPEG copies. More on HEIC.

Questions

Do I install anything on the Windows PC?
No. Open RoomDisk in Chrome or Edge.
Does my iPhone model matter?
No. Every iPhone from the 11 to the 17 works the same way, because the transfer is wireless and doesn’t use the port.
Do both need the same Wi-Fi?
Both devices need to reach each other: the same Wi-Fi, or one device’s hotspot (no data plan needed). To reach your disk from another network, there’s RoomDisk Anywhere.
Is there a size limit?
No upload limit: files go directly. The Windows PC’s free space is the limit.
